Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim Arrested

Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim was arrested by the police just outside his home in Bukit Segambut, Kuala Lumpur, at 12.55pm today.

The de facto PKR leader was on his way back to his house after being questioned by the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA).

A team of police officers were waiting, according to lawyer R Sivarasa.

Anwar was driven away in a 4WD vehicle with tinted windows, escorted by a convoy of 15 patrol cars. They arrived at Kuala Lumpur police headquarters at 1.11pm.

Reason of Arrest:
The police were worried that PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim would not show up at the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters by 2pm and therefore decided to arrest him.

Star Online quoted Federal CID director Bakri Zinin as saying that Anwar was supposed to have gone directly to the police headquarters immediately after giving his statement to the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) in Putrajaya.

“However, we were informed that after he left the ACA headquarters in Putrajaya, he had changed his route and was heading back to his house in (Bukit) Segambut.

Anwar Doughter’s Say:
Dad was arrested by the cops whilst on his way to the IPK to give his statement. The cops gave till 2pm for dad to report but still arrested him before the deadline. Dad was on his way back home to have lunch in Bukit Segambut, and then head to the IPK but the cops blocked off the road and arrested him like a criminal. And the cops who arrested him were Special Squad cops with balaclavas!!! Is that necessary!!!

“Tak Boleh Tahan” - Singaporean’s Say

1.jpgLately there were massive rallies organized in Malaysia by HINDRAF, BERSIH and SUAKAM, which somehow resulted the political tsunami in Malaysia on the recent election. Therefore, apart from the neighboring country, I thought that Malaysia is the only country facing with these types of dilemma. However, sad to know that Singaporean’s are also facing some setbacks.

About 20 people staged a protest outside parliament house in Singapore wearing red t-shirt that said “Tak Boleh Tahan” which means “Can’t Stand Anymore” with price hike. They were holding placards and chanting slogans decrying the rising cost of living in Singapore.

Among the protesters were several Singapore’s opposition Party members. As a result, they were arrested after a tense standoff with police on Saturday for their peaceful protest outside the city-state’s parliament house. This is a rare assembly and a permit is required if there are more then five people are participating.

Uncle Sam Surrenders at last

samymic.gifAt last, our MIC chief Uncle Sam has made a gentlemen statement that he’s not going to offer himself to accept any cabinet post in Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s new administration. He also mentioned that he would not return to the Cabinet by seeking a senatorship title.

It is learnt that he has submitted the names of the three MIC parliamentarians - Dr S Subramaniam (party secretary general and Segamat MP), K Devamany (central working committee member and Cameron Highlands MP) and M Saravanan (party information chief and Tapah MP).

New face Saravanan, also the Federal Territory MIC chief, is seen as a favourite to be offered a minister’s post.

Most Indians in Malaysia were celebrating while Uncle Sam suffered a very humiliating loss on the recent election. They were even merrier when other candidates of MIC were being casualties on the heavy defeats in the midst of a swing among the voters, which resulted opposition new comers to win unprecedented number of seats in parliament and DUN.
