HINDRAF’s and GMI’s Abolish ISA Forum with Penangites

OK, its time for me to write about the “Abolish ISA” forum that was organized by HINDRAF. The event mesmerized by germane presence of Mr. Syed Ibrahim who is the president of GMI, Human Rights lawyer Latifah Koya, Norlaila Othman who is the wife of ISA detainee Mat Sah Mohd Satrong, sister and mother of ISA detainee P. Uthayakumar and an ex-ISA detainee who is our new Penang CM Mr. Guan Eng. Their presence itself enthralled the evening. Among other VIP’s were our first Indian Penang DCM Prof. Ramasamy, Adun YB Raven and HINDRAF’s National Coordinator Mr. Thanindran. HINDRAF key person, Waythamoorthy’s wife also was there with us.

Olaichuvadi’s Sathis and myself were given the opportunity to handle the Multimedia section for this forum. The main purpose we got involved in this section is to get Waytha to perform a live webcam chat with the audience. We have been doing testing with Waytha for the past 1 week. Unfortunately, we could not get hold of him during the forum since his flight was delayed in Geneva.

Well, the whole event started with a Multimedia presentation that was prepared by Haribalan of HINDRAFpg. A must watch presentation by everyone. I’ll post it soon in MakalVoice. The hall was full house by end of presentation. Almost 5000 people and many were standing. By then the entire hall has been crammed with emotion and the crowd were anticipating for the next agenda. The event followed through a speech with a powerpoint presentation by GMI’s president Mr. Syed Ibrahim. GMI stands for Gerakkan Mansuhkan ISA who started their activities during 2000’s. The presentation started with a slide saying “ISA Tak Pernah Wajar” which means “ISA Never Been Right”. Mr. Syed Ibrahim made everyone awestruck with the concealed truth behind ISA. The agenda follows with Guan Eng’s idiom who rapt everyone with his own experience and his stand for Abolish ISA. He mentioned that we now have not only Penang, but 5 states which is going to fight draconian act like ISA. According to him and Raven, release of ISA detainees and close down Kamunting Camp will be their major topic to debate on their first parliamentary meeting.

As the event getting hotter and thought provoking, the police started to pressure the committees to end the event at soonest possible even while the presence of CM and DCM. The best part is that they gave warning to committees not to talk about ISA. It really sounds witty…what to talk in a forum where the title itself is about ISA? It seems most people have changed but not the police. What to do, they have not altered masters yet, those Polis Di Raja Malaysia.

Following Raven, Human Rights Lawyer and PKR’s Latifah Koyah made her plunk for abolishing ISA. She mentioned that she is under stress because of police presence. She made her speech short and simple yet powerful.

Before dispersing, HINDRAF National Coordinator Mr. Thanindran boost everyone’s sensitivity with his words. The one utterance he mentioned is still very fresh in my mind. He said that HINDRAF main intention is to “confront injustice without fear and favor”. I think this objective should be in every Malaysian’s vein and blood that consist of all races. Until then, the government will still make slavery on us. Valghe Makkal Sakthi!!! Valghe HINDRAF!!! Olige ISA!!!
