50 Years of Unspoken Words

Well…it has been some time after the election. If not mistaken, I think most of us are happy with the result as I am and some of us still cannot believe that we have made it happen. Whatsoever, we as a nation have proved that we can choose or trash a government. We used democracy to the tremendous. The “Makkal Sathi” synergy has been ignited by HINDRAF. Now everyone is brave enough to voice out his or her disgruntlements. It’s a big achievement by Malaysian Indians. Everything seems to be going on the right track. However, what are our goals in common? A friend of mine has written an article on his thoughts, which is to be read and ponder upon by every Malaysian Indian. Everyone’s critics and response are most welcome. Please read and brood over…

50 Years of Unspoken Words by Kalidass

Tamil proverb that says:

    Oru gramathai katpatheke, oru kudumbathei parikudukulam;
    Oru oorai karpatheke, oru gramathai parikudukulam;
    Oru naathai katpatheke, oru oorai parikudukulam.

The English translation of the proverb is as follows:

    To save a village, a family can be sacrificed;
    To save a district, a village can be sacrificed;
    To save a state, a district can be sacrificed

8th Mac 08 is a significant turn around in the Malaysian history and rightfully the Indians and the Malaysian public have lived true to the above proverb. The Indians took a decisive decision to sacrifice their representation through the BN coalition by refusing MIC the mandate as their sole representative for all Indians in Malaysia. It takes a brave race with great history to make the bold decision that would eliminate their representation in the government. I guess we decided it is great to live in poverty rather being slaves by losing our dignity!

    “ Kotha kotha kunibavanum madaiyan..kotravanum madaiyan”

It has daunted upon the Indians that after 50 years of independence we are not moving forward but being pushed back in development by the government policies and practices. More so by our so called saviors and guardians of MIC who has been under the strong influence and clutches of Samy Vellu. I guess he has forgotten that every time when “atharma” prevails an avatar will come forth to that calling as never in history there was a dictator who have lived long enough to be bigger than god or nature. He has become irrelevant now to the Malaysian Indians and MIC is in the brink of becoming irrelevant as well if they continue this disastrous path that was paved by the leader!

The big question that confronts the Malaysian Indians is where do we go from here? We need a focused sense of direction, sense of belonging and a vision that is common to all Indians immaterial of caste, creed, race, colour or religion. Let’s stop this bickering within our community and be united with a common shared values and principle and work towards community and nation building.

I could never ignore the role that HINDRAF has played in awakening the giant that have been sleeping for the past 50 years among the Indians. It was an eye opener for many of us as if we have just woke up from a dream of impossibility to possibility thinking. A friend of mine mentioned that the sacrifice of the” 5 Pandawas” will be taken care by the almighty and they will be part of our Malaysian Indian heritage and history until our future generation still lives in this country.

So what next?

    Are we going to conduct further street demonstration to fight for our rights?
    Are we going to bash our Malays brothers and sisters rights in this country?
    Are we going to call the UMNO led government to step down and take notice of our calls?

I know what sentiments that we hold all this years as I am one of the marginalized many by the policy and practices in Malaysia and that doesn’t make me feel great. I came from a humble estate beginning with a dream of bringing changes to my fellow Indians flight in this country but never had the courage nor the strength to take the first step to bring awareness until HINDRAF came about. It is not wrong to say that every Indian in this country would feel the sense of belonging to Hindraf’s call as these are the same sentiment that have been buried with us for a very long time!

It is a victory synergized indeed by Hindraf that we have been unable to voice out all this while that we have been suppressed in our hearts and souls.

My appeal to my fellow Malaysian Indians is to think wisely and carve plans to use the existing mechanism that is available now with the new dawn and make our demands which are appropriate to our needs. Let’s not do that by depriving the special rights of our Malays friends in order to achieve what we want but rather acknowledging the fact that we need to co-exist in harmony not is words but also in deeds and actions.

Remember the Malay and Chinese friends’ sympathy during our flight in the recent historical general election. Let’s learn from BN’s mistakes and ask ourselves what does this nation of mine Malaysian needs now so our future generation shall remember the sacrifice of not only by our community but also by the Malays and Chinese?

Let’s make a difference that we are Indians with great values and principles and we are the descendents of the Great Pari King who demonstrated love, passion, kindness and forgiveness even to his enemy. If it is true that we come from such a great civilization don’t you think this is the right stage to present it to our fellow Malaysians. Let’s tell our future generation that we made a difference in bringing change to this nation by embracing our fellow Malay and Chinese friends in nation building.

Lets move away from being emotional and ask our selves;

    1) What do we really want
    2) What needs to be done for the future of our generation
    3) What needs to be done for Malaysia

We ignited the notion of “Makkal Sakthi” in the hearts and souls of every Malaysian who truly believe in nation harmony! Let our vision become a reality.

    This article is a real “eye opener” for those who have been feeling “great” about our recent election result. We must realize that this is not the end and we have a long way to go before we achieve what we have been demanding for…the “real independence”.

    This is just the start. We have to join DAP-PKR-PAS (Pakatan Rakyat)now and begin campaigning for the next election. Yes, that’s the way to lay a foundation for the change and that is the minimum time you need to make a positive contribution. This is a call to all Malaysians. Join the PR party of your choice now not for your own gain but so that you can tell your children and grandchildren how you helped save Malaysia for them. The next election will be crucial as BN will pull out all the stops and do what it can to keep the ‘mandore system” in place at least until the oild runs out.
