“Tak Boleh Tahan” - Singaporean’s Say

1.jpgLately there were massive rallies organized in Malaysia by HINDRAF, BERSIH and SUAKAM, which somehow resulted the political tsunami in Malaysia on the recent election. Therefore, apart from the neighboring country, I thought that Malaysia is the only country facing with these types of dilemma. However, sad to know that Singaporean’s are also facing some setbacks.

About 20 people staged a protest outside parliament house in Singapore wearing red t-shirt that said “Tak Boleh Tahan” which means “Can’t Stand Anymore” with price hike. They were holding placards and chanting slogans decrying the rising cost of living in Singapore.

Among the protesters were several Singapore’s opposition Party members. As a result, they were arrested after a tense standoff with police on Saturday for their peaceful protest outside the city-state’s parliament house. This is a rare assembly and a permit is required if there are more then five people are participating.

Along with those detained was Seelan Palay, who starved from the five days hunger strike in front of Malaysian Embassy in Singapore for the release of our five HINDRAF heroes.

“We want to draw attention to these unbearable price hikes,” said Chee Soon Juan from Singapore Democratic Party in front of the parliament house. “Our objective is to continue to encourage Singaporeans to speak up.”

Singapore’s annual inflation rate hit a 25-year high of 6.6 percent in January with food prices rising 5.8 percent in that month from a year earlier. Pity the low income Singaporean.

This is public frustation which I agreed with them.Government should distribute out income tax money wisely and not for specific party like what happen Malaysia.Only UMNO enjoy the privilage.

Singapore does distribute money to the poor. From what I see, I do see valid reasons for the demonstrations in Malaysia for minority rites and the NEP policies. Their breaking point being temples being demolished and all cases relating to muslims always favour the muslims.

As for Singapore, I do not see a valid reason for organising demonstration due to inflation.

These ppl are attention deprived lots and provide no solutions to the issues they raised.

Perhaps, they have learnt from the mnalaysian demonstartions, and feel they can voice their frustrations as well.there is no harm in allowing some form of expression, if one needs to counted as a free country.
